NEW MEDIA EVENT

Beyond YouTube: The Future of Video on Emerging Platforms

Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2011

6:00-6:30 PM – Reception
6:30-7:30 PM – Panel
7:30-8:00 PM – Q&A

What makes watching video on a mobile phone, iPad or computer screen compelling? Will these platforms ever replace TVs? How can content be created in a way to work across platforms? What takes people from online to TV and vice versa? The future is open, but history is still being written. While sites like YouTube dominate, networks are developing their own video players and apps, Hulu must make new distribution deals to stay competitive, and Netflix is racing to stay ahead of cable providers even as Amazon gets into the streaming business. Subscription models compete with ad-revenue models to create sustainable businesses, while other brands extend their marketing into the online video space to stay relevant. A state of flux is the norm.

Working professionals in the field of online media will share their experiences, challenges and strategies in this panel discussion and Q&A. The conversation will be moderated by Erin Franzman of Fuse.tv, and panelists will include Ricky Van Veen of Collegehumor.com and Notional, Justin Rocket Silverman of News Corp.’s The Daily, Alex Iglesias of New York Emmy® Award-winning MSG FanCam and KidCam, and and Karen Fowler from Sesame Street/The Electric Company.
