“Bill Plympton: The King of Indie Animation Exhibit and Sale of his Hand Drawn Works from the 1980’s to the present”

 
NY NATAS members plus one adult guest are invited to attend this special event.
There will be an Opening Night Wine Reception with Personal Appearance of Legendary Animator Bill Plympton at the Sragow Gallery located in New York City.

This exhibit will run from October 12, 2011 through December 17, 2011. 
Gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00PM – 6:00PM
(Special gallery hours: Sunday, October 16th, 1:00.-6:00PM for NY Comic Con.)
 
Sragow Gallery will offerhand drawn works of art from Bill Plympton’s shorts and features for sale at the exhibit.  Pre-signed copies of Independently Animated: Bill Plympton, The Life and Art of the King of Indie Animation, by Bill Plympton and David B. Levy, foreword by Terry Gilliam and DVD’s of Bill’s features and short films will also be on sale. 
 
In 1987, Bill received his first Oscar® nomination for “Your Face" followed by a second Oscar® nomination for "Guard Dog" in 2005.  In 2010, Bill was once again an Oscar® nominee for both his animated feature, “Idiots and Angels” and his animated short, “The Cow That Wanted To Be A Hamburger.”  New from Bill is a unique animated compilation from animators around the world called “Guard Dog Global Jam.” His new short films, currently at Film Festivals include, "Summer Bummer" and the Weird Al music video "TMZ.”  A member of the Society of Illustrators, Bill has been honored by the MoCCA Art Festival, as a Cartoonist of the Year.
 
Sragow Gallery was established in 1974 by Ellen Sragow.  Early Sragow Gallery exhibitions included works of “emerging artists” Ida Applebroog, Jeff Koons and Richard Prince.  Since 1981, it has represented the Hollander Workshop (1964-1972).  Some of the artists it currently represents are Elizabeth Catlett, Howardena Pindell, John Wilson, self-taught artist Bessie Nickens and works on paper by Sam Gilliam and Jacob Lawrence.  Currently, the Sragow Gallery is involved with African American Art and first showed the work of Joseph Delaney.  Alphonse van Woerkom’s own portrait of Bill will be on display in the gallery.  Ellen Sragow is a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association and the Appraisers Association of America.
