Produced & Moderated by Sumner Jules Glimcher

Narrated by Academy Award winners Sissy Spacek and Herbie Hancock, AMAZON GOLD is the disturbing account of a dangerous clandestine journey into the Amazon rainforest. Two journalists, Donovan Webster and Ron Haviv, led by Peruvian biologist, Enrique Ortiz, uncover the savage unraveling of a pristine rainforest. They bear witness to the apocalyptic destruction in the pursuit of illegally mined gold with consequences on a global scale. The serious subject is delivered with creativity, including animated segments and artist’s renderings. AMAZON GOLD reaffirms the right of the rainforest to exist as a repository of priceless biodiversity.  AMAZON GOLD has won ten awards at film festivals throughout the U.S. and internationally. It is garnering front-page attention from the media in South America and has captivated politicians with environmental concerns, as well as individuals in the United Nations and the U.S. government. The film reveals a conservation dilemma with consequences to the world.

James Cavello, Producer of AMAZON GOLD, is an award-winning curator, gallery owner, filmmaker, and executive board member of several non-profit organizations in NYC. His participation as Vice President of Amazon Aid Foundation, a non-profit that unites scientists and creative individuals to bring awareness regarding conservation in the Amazon led him to produce AMAZON GOLD. Cavello brought artistry to the storytelling in the film, with the understanding that artists can provide the audience with an enlightening experience. In the past he has created film shorts on artists to reveal their unique character and working medium. Cavello curates and organizes exhibitions in his fine art gallery, Westwood Gallery NYC and creates traveling exhibitions throughout the world. The gallery exhibits contemporary and legendary artists, including estate collections of artists the gallery has brought back to life.

Margarite Almeida, Executive Producer of AMAZON GOLD, is a gallery owner, filmmaker, entrepreneur, writer and serves on the board of several non-profit organizations. Her participation in AMAZON GOLD was brought on by serving on the executive board of Amazon Aid Foundation. The founder of the organization, created a call to action due to ongoing man-made destruction in the Amazon rainforest affecting large areas of the most bio-diverse eco-systems in the world. Almeida’s role was to bring business and creative strategies to the filmmaking process. The making of AMAZON GOLD required management of scientific, conservation, political, social and individual objectives. Almeida assisted with the challenges and logistics of a remote location and thereafter managing an effective bi-coastal team.
