On Thursday, October 25, 2007, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, New York Chapter and Local 802 AFM, Associated Musicians of Greater New York, will present the inaugural COMPOSERS CAFÉ, a new series of programs featuring prominent composers presenting their life’s work through stories, playing their music, and video clips.

Elliot Lawrence has been the Music Director of the Tony Awards show since its television inception. He was composer/conductor for the Oscar winning film “Network” and the opening sequence for “The French Connection.” He served as conductor and orchestrator for a host of fondly remembered original Broadway productions, among them “Bye Bye Birdie,” “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” (winning a Tony Award for music direction), “The Apple Tree,” “Here''s Love,” “Golden Rainbow,” “Golden Boy,” and “Sugar.” He is the recipient of seven Emmy® Awards for several shows, including “The Kennedy Center Honors,” which he music directed for 12 years.



Jamie Lawrence has been honored with four Emmy® Awards for his compositions and arrangements. He produced the music to the feature film “The Ballad of Jack and Rose” starring Daniel Day Lewis and produced/conducted the score for “Music of Regret” starring Meryl Streep. He has scored numerous documentaries – most recently these for HBO: “Dealing Dogs,” “Methadonia,” and “Shot in The Dark,” directed by Adrian Grenier. He also has a side gig as a writer/performer of children’s songs under a secret alias – Jamie Broza.



John McDaniel’s credits include: “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” (2 Emmy® Awards), Comedy Central “Friars Roasts” ‘99, ‘00, ‘01, ‘02 (Arranger, Conductor), “A Rosie Christmas” (Arranger, Conductor), Tony Awards ‘97, ‘98, ‘00 (Arranger). Broadway: “Brooklyn, the Musical” (Producer, Music Supervisor, Arranger, Orchestrator), “Grease!” (Music Director, Arranger), “Chicago” (Conductor), “Patti LuPone on Broadway” (Arranger), “Annie Get Your Gun” (Music Supervisor/Arranger, Grammy Award/Record Producer), “Taboo” (Music Supervisor, Arranger). John has several recordings incl. 3 solo CDs.
